The role of the argentine federation of radiology in the education of young professionals in argentina and latin america

The Argentine Federation of Radiology (Faardit), which was created more than fifty years ago, is the institutional space that represents Argentine radiology both in national fields and in international forums of Imaging and Radiology. It brings together more than three thousand five hundred radiologists and resident physicians in Argentina, as well as one thousand five hundred Bachelors of Bioimaging.

Our aim is to gather all imaging and radiology associations to establish social, cultural and scientific links, as well as protection ties of the ethical principles and economic interests of their members.
The access to education, mainly for the young people in Argentina and neighboring countries, has always been our greatest motivation. Below, we will show you some of our initiatives and activities, too.

Residents Meeting: It is an academic activity created by the Argentine Federation of Radiology where young residents in Argentina and the rest of Latin America can present high-complexity cases to be discussed and analyzed with the audience.

This activity is coordinated by experts in different imaging areas who try to reach, along with the participants, a diagnosis of each case presented. This activity has been developed for more than twenty-five years; so far, one hundred seventeen schools have participated, and more than eight hundred fifty clinical cases have been presented. At present, we carry out this Meeting at the Argentine Congress of Diagnostic Imaging as well as at the International Congresses of Cordoba and Tucuman. We also take part, along with professors, in the coordination of the Feres Secaf Residents Meeting, an event for young radiologists that is organized by the Paulista Society of Radiology in Sao Paulo.

Online Courses: The organization of our Online Courses is also one of the main activities of our Federation, offering high-quality education to all young residents in our country, as well as to specialists for their continuing medical education. We conduct courses that cover different thematic diagnostic areas, which later become part of our free academic courses available to all our members.

We also count on an online Postgraduate University Course on Diagnostic Imaging that lasts two years and a half, where not only Argentine but also residents and specialists from the rest of the American continent can participate.

Online Activities and Scholarships: Starting during the 2020 pandemic, we have been conducting online educational and dynamic activities encouraging, this way, education within the reach of any computer or mobile phone. Nowadays, having left behind the pandemic, we continue and even increase such activities like Virtual Scientific Meetings (monthly thematic webinars), Monthly Cases (publication of weekly educational cases on our Youtube channel and educational platform), Make your Diagnosis (platform where cases to be diagnosed by the participants are published weekly, joining points for accurate diagnoses and competing for important prizes). We carry out these activities with the support of our sponsors, who help us offer scholarships to the participants and winners of the activities just described, among which we have entire-trip scholarships to be able to attend the Congresses organized by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, and the Paulista Society of Radiology in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This has been a brief but illustrative description of the full potential and passion that the Argentine Federation of Radiology has for education, not only for the Argentine but also for the Latin American youth. We are deeply grateful to the French Society of Radiology for inviting us to this Congress, giving the opportunity to participate to nine fellow members of the Argentine Federation of Radiology and the Argentine Society of Radiology as well.
